Laurel is grieving over her very-much-alive husband, John, and the love she once thought they’d shared. With secrets uncovered, vows broken, and lies mounting, she realizes the man she’d trusted; her home, her safe place, her everything- never really existed.  

For years, John had been wearing a mask. Discovering what lurked behind it puts Laurel in a very dangerous place. He begins to watch her every move while simultaneously amusing himself by intentionally inflicting emotional wounds on her heart to shatter her self-esteem. Reliant on his finances and trapped in a marriage filled with psychological abuse, Laurel finds herself sleeping next to a man she now fears could kill her.  

As she secretly documents the state of their marriage and the trauma she is experiencing, Laurel yearns for one thing - to escape and break the twisted bond that chains her to John. To survive, she puts her life on the line, cloaks her face in a disguise of her own, and cautiously begins using her personal journal entries to write a memoir while he is at work. Every word, every page, empowering her with strength and courage, because Laurel sees that her story is not over - it’s just beginning. 

And she must soon face her biggest fear...
